Every item you purchase has an impact.
Let's make it a good one.
Each Evolve Adventure towel contains the equivalent of 20 plastic bottles in the form of recycled polyester (rPET). While it is a versatile, high performance fiber, we ultimately made the choice to use rPET in response to the plastic crisis that is plaguing our environment.
One of the most significant benefits of rPET is that it creates a demand for post-consumer plastics, keeping them out of landfill. Each year, 51 billion plastic bottles go into landfill worldwide, with many of these later finding their way into our oceans. Changing our consumer choices creates a demand for recycled product, which in turn can help reduce the amount of plastic diverted to landfill.
Aside from reducing landfill, the production of recycled polyester has significant environmental advantages over virgin polyester. rPET uses 90% less water, 70% less energy, and releases 75% less carbon than virgin fibre production.
Our tees and hoodies are made using 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, printed in the US using low impact inks. Our threads are also PETA- approved vegan, with no animal products used in their production.
We chose organic cotton for our apparel because of it's low impact on the environment. It is grown without harmful chemicals, leaving the soil, air and water free from contaminates.
Organic cotton produces around 46% less carbon dioxide compared to conventional cotton. It also uses far less water to grow since organic cotton growers typically utilize rain far more than irrigation. On top of all that, organic cotton growers use beneficial insects to control unwanted pests instead of relying on harmful chemicals, thus encouraging biodiversity.
By choosing to buy organic cotton you are enhancing the health of humans, animals and natural resources around the world.
We offset our carbon emissions by purchasing credits from Gold Standard certified projects. GS VER credits are certified by The Gold Standard Foundation - a leading international certification standard for carbon mitigation projects founded by WWF and other NGOs to serve as the benchmark in carbon markets . This provides rigorous third party assurance of integrity. Issued GS credits are recorded and allocated on a global public registry.
We feel that the Gold Standard Foundation offers the greatest transparency, accountability and impact in the industry as all of their projects are required to feature:
1. The most stringent environmental and social safeguards
2. Local stakeholder consultation
3. Gender-sensitive project design
4. Multiple contributions to sustainable development
5. Higher environmental integrity due to the exclusion of project types with greater risks and negative impacts (e.g., fossil fuel switch or large hydropower projects that can threaten local wildlife)
6. Civil society endorsement from our NGO Supporter Network
